Started off as a self help page seeking a change in lifestyle and attitude since 2016, have kept it going through into 2020-22 as it helps to get stuff off my chest, encouragement, mental health and achievements however big or small they may be. Keep the faith. Be Nice. Stay Alive.

WEEK FOUR 23/01 -- 29/01 JANUARY NEARLY OVER
Pleased to survive January, it's not been such a bad start to the year.
Still plenty of work to do but we are trying hard. Hasn't all gone my way though.
I shall be going into Hospital this coming weekend, it's my poor heart and needs looking at. It might even need a jump start (Heart Arrhythmia) which I'm told is a simple enough procedure and told not to worry, but sadly that's what I do best. Am always worried about something.
Will be glad to see off this week then. Am keeping busy with plenty of activity, hopefully going to start seeing some benefit to this soon but I know it's a long process. All being well I can update things next week on how that went for me. Of course if there are no further updates you'll have an idea that things didn't quite go to plan. :(
Also looking forward to my sister Pam turning 50! I'm sure she's looking forward to it too, well at least the gathering on the Saturday night which could well get messy.
February will be difficult for me emotionally regardless of how the heart and hospital stuff pans out, because Feb 7th would have been Dad's birthday and later in the month it would have been my Mum's.
Love you both and miss you so much. Maybe I will see you again soon you never know...

WEEK THREE 16/01 -- 22/01
... eating the last of the cheese and crackers left over from Christmas !!
But more importantly am still off the booze and doing more walking and weights.
Getting through January has felt a lot easier than I recall from recent years, despite the best efforts of South West trains to ruin my commute mornings and some evenings. Even so I feel good, will soon be paid for January and have a good 50th birthday party to attend ... not mine of course, I'm still young. :)
I have found that it really helps my mood and perspective to have several small but important days out or visits planned. Gives me something to look forward to, meeting up with friends or checking out places of interest. It was great to meeting up late last year with an old work colleague and spend a good few hours going around the Natural History Museum. Something I'd promised myself I'd do for years and yet kept putting off. Really enjoyable day out even though it kills your feet as it's massive and plenty to see.
So with that good feeling still fairly fresh in my mind have begun to look at days off to take for the early part of the year, nothing much happening during January or February (50th birthdays aside of course) but will be out for Cheltenham Gold Cup day as usual in March and my own birthday celebrations which see's a few of us attend Ascot races on 27th April and a few days out possibly Brighton or a trip over Beachy Head (no, not off the cliff edge) to Eastbourne.
It's been an enjoyable week again, despite the cold and the best efforts of South West trains. Will now look forward to seeing off January and move planning onwards for the next stages of this year.
Keep warm, keep well.
Be nice ...

WEEK TWO 09/01 -- 15/01
I trust your January is beginning as positive and fun as mine has been so far, thought it's early days I am actually feeling good about this year and keeping very active during what can be traditionally a very dull month.
So what's the change, well to start with the early starts are continuing and that's getting me out for a walk on way to work which gets the blood flowing and the temperature up a bit. When I compare this to last year where I would stay under the duvet for as long as possible and roll into work about 10am.
Work is busy we have new products to launch and so the time passes quite well, the important change here has been to drink more water and buy more fruit the days of having a drawer full of snacks are gone for now.
At the end of January I have to go into hospital to have my heart looked at, it's clearly broken but that's a separate issue, once I get that out of the way the next task is to plan a break for myself. Looking at going on a Cruise, never done this before and the destination is likely to be Scandinavia. No dates in mind but will be good to have a holiday for once.
So full steam ahead for the rest of January, more exercise, more positive thinking, more activities to look ahead to and more fun. Speaking of which I'll sign off with a few words from my buddy Taz ...

WEEK ONE 01/01 -- 08/01
Welcome,
The first week of the new year is over and done with, here's looking forward to the next fifty one.
As already mentioned this is a very personal blog to help me track changes in my lifestyle, maybe sharing some of the things I've found that helped make it possible and generally to feel that I'm making small strides and progress.
Will not be weighing myself weekly nor joining weight watchers either but every now and again I shall update the figures, no more than once every 6-8 weeks though. It's not just about the weight, although that IS a big issue, it's more about how I feel about ME.
So for the purpose of having some figures to compare progress with here's where we begin 2016 at;
Opening Weight at 1st Jan -- 23st 6lb
Measurements (inches)
Neck -- 21
Chest -- 54
Stomach -- 57
Waist -- 48
Thighs -- 27
Biceps -- 14
The original intention is to update this blog once a week at least, I will at the very least attempt to conjure up some more imaginative post titles though.

2016 -- A NEW YEAR AND A NEW START
HAPPY NEW YEAR and a BIG welcome to 2016.
This is my opening entry on a very personal blog which will hopefully document my journey throughout this coming year. I have a number of reasons for creating this, the primary goal is to stimulate my weight loss and health kick which is NOT a New Year resolution but something I want to do and need to do for myself.
I am not going to set any figures or weight loss goals as such, I know what I want to achieve the most important thing is to see a change and keep focusing on the good things I can do throughout the year to ensure that I am feeling better, looking better and who knows what else.

THIS is where I begin.
Yeah I know there's a lot of work ahead, I enjoy a challenge, it's motivation and desire to do it for ME that is the biggest struggle.
Any motivational comments or links are welcome, I repeat though this is not some fad diet process, it's a genuine attempt to change my lifestyle, be more active, gain back some self respect and shake off this malaise that has set in over recent years.
I CAN be better
I WILL be better
I DESERVE to live my life.
